  The Introduction

Selected detail from Larry Kaiser's Political Paintings.

Kaiser political paintings are actually paintings.  In fact, they are large paintings (see one in scale), mostly oil and acrylic on canvas. They are not political drawings.  They are not editorial cartoons. These political canvases date  back to the late 1960s beginning with He Was the Head Waiter, my disparagement of American policy regarding  Vietnam.  The paintings continue through the Carter blunders, the Reagan cruelties, the  Bush administration's macho disregard for thought in general...and on and on and on, I hope.

A rt

MUST HAVE

A MISSION...

A mission so valiant its pursuit requires Art's practitioners

be as splendid in FEARLESSNESS

as in articulation,

and charges every artist to

ATTACK

the tyrants of our times with Art's most powerful weapon...

RIDICULE."   --Larry Kaiser

Note:  the quote above is an excerpt  from a controversial speech I gave to a convention of art consultants in Phoenix about ten years ago.  I have re-digitized the speech and provide it here for those who are interested.   PLAY AUDIO   Yes, the response began warmly, rose to enthusiasm occasionally, but fell off in the end to uncertain politeness.  The decision NOT to invite me back to the podium in the future was certain, however.

NOTE:

TO OTHER ARTISTS

SEND information

TRY IT.  YOU'LL LIKE IT.

imagine, with attentive, patriotic eyes and ears everywhere, how much more influential a political PAINTER could be.

Imagine the POLITICAL PAINTER as everyone's...

visual ombudsman.

Imagine a large, dedicated, patriotic web of smart, relentless informants  constantly discovering corrupt, greedy,  cruel politico-corporate behavior and then feeding that information, i.e.

(rumors, sightings, meetings, deals, QUID PRO QUOS, power plays, associations, BAG MEN, PAYOFFS, LEVERS, Linkups, lip-locks, lushes, lIMOS, lovers, lap dances and more)

to your political painter of choice.

Imagine how such information would empower the artist to really, seriously go after the worst of our UNpatriotic politico-corporate tyrants and their self-serving policies.

So:

  • I ask you to send me every tidbit of information you can (in particular those of you in Washington, D.C. and all our State Capitals).

  • Send me the dirty little secrets (even rumors) that our corporate and governmental leader's try to hide.

  • Send me suggestions for paintings.

  • Send me issues you think are the most important, especially the ones that are most persistent (timeless).

YES! I have something really juicy for your next political painting;

Link me to the send page, please.

I want to encourage other artists  to do political paintings.

But understand there is an important difference between a political painting, a political cartoon and an editorial illustration.

For my explanation of that difference, visit my mission page and my history of political paintings page.

Then, any of you who are:

  • Political cartoonists

  • Gallery artists

  • Editorial illustrators

  • Art students

Give it a shot.  Send those new political paintings out to competitions and art shows.  Put them on your websites.  Send me a link.  Make your agents and your gallery reps take a good look.  Encourage other artists to do the same.

You will be newly energized and it will show in your life and your work.

You will have gained a...

MISSION.

...AND THAT WILL MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

I am looking forward to seeing many new competitors the next time I enter one of my political paintings in competition.
